How to Invite Fairies Into Your Garden, Yard, Home, and Life

Not every type of faery will be willing or even safe to invite into your home or garden...
so take heed as to which type you are beckoning forth.
Just as there were good and benevolent Sidhe in the days of old,
there was also the opposite...the yang to the yin, so to speak, of the faery folk.
Some Celtic folk knew this group of fey as the Unseelie Court, which included many various types of faery from bogles to buttery sprites...hobgoblins to Beansidhe...spriggans to trolls.
Some of these types represented death, such as the Beansidhe...hence the old legend of the "beansidhe's wailing", while others were purely selfish and vengeful.
In addition to these feared fey, there were those who enjoyed eating humans, such as trolls...

...How do we know who are the good fey that will be protective and beneficial to our homes and families?
here is so many types of faeries that have powers for different magic, here are just a few that you may want to research and eventually invite into your home or garden:
Salamanders:
  • actually considered fire elementals and Guardians of the South
  • land of origin is speculated to be the Middle East but have been seen in ceremonial magick in China
  • known to be active all year long and resemble earthly amphibians but pack a more powerful magickal punch
  • invite them by calling the four directions or guardians of the watchtowers
  • because they are so powerful, they are recommended to be used during spiritual workings and then asked to leave after the workings have been completed
Well Spirits:
  • wonderful Irish faeries to invite to reside in and watch over a pond or fountain within your garden or yard.
  • usually quite empathetic to human needs but can be shapeshifters if the envious kind.
  • make sure the well spirits do not try to embrace you, as it is said that they will drag you into the water with them to keep you there forever; however, simple protective measures can be taken to ensure danger is eliminated
Dryads:
  • tree-dwelling spirits known throughout many cultures all over the world
  • druids took their name from the dryads, who supposedly instilled their knowledge of the earth and nature's powers to the Celtic spiritually worthy
  • are active all year but can be seen/contacted specifically during full moons...they usually come out to play in the full moon's beams
  • they are said to live amongst the highest tree branches and look out for the trees' wellbeing
  • invite them into your yard and garden to look after your beloved trees
  • asking them for musical ability or spiritual knowledge can sometimes work out...as long as you give something of yourself in return for their wisdom
Pixies:
  • if you're looking for the perfectly tiny faery to flit about your garden, protect your garden's flowers and keep the garden fruitful, the pixie might be the faery for you
  • they are originally from Scotland and are known to be especially active in the Spring (hence their love of pretty flowers)
  • in order to befriend them and invite them into your garden, you may want to try some energy work first...along with libations or offerings
Brownies:
  • you are tired and overwhelmed with housework...maybe you could use the wonderfully relieving help of a brownie
  • a brownie is a small dwarf faery who is known throughout Scotland, Canada and the US to be the nicest faery one could come across
  • they are active mainly at night so as not to step on the toes of the lady of the house
  • you can invite them to come into your home by laying out libations (food) for them but you must know that they are picky as to which family they choose to aid...you must be of the savory kind of person who cares for humanity and nature and still believe in the tales and magick of old
  • not only do they aid in household chores, they also watch over the children and animals and can lend energy to prosperity needs of the household

Libations or Offerings...Why Must We Do This?

From Edain McCoy's Guide to the Faery Folk, "Most faeries hate profuse displays of thanks from humans whom they have helped. It is best not to utter thanks at all, but to leave out extra portions of milk, butter, or bread for them by way of showing your appreciation. These offerings are called libations..."

Proper Environment

Keep in mind that the little folks are picky as to where they live. Mostly the only places they visit on our plane are the deep woods and unspoiled streams of water. Think about this concept if you are planning on inviting or beckoning a faery into your yard or garden...if you have a gardener or someone who cuts your yard, you may want to take over this duty yourself so as to prevent from too many people or strangers invading the space where your faery friend will be visiting or residing. Many faeries love water so add a small fountain or even a little koi pond with a waterfall if it is in the budget. This is especially effective and necessary if the desire is there to invite a water or well spirit.
If you happen to have a stump of an old tree in your yard or garden, offer libations here particularly because the fey do not like seeing destruction of nature by the hands of man. You could also arrange a circle of stones within your garden...circles are a favorite hang-out spot for the wee folk and have been noted in old text for centuries. If you happen to live on a farm and have a horse, you are in even better luck because the wee folk have been known throughout history to have an innate love for horses.
If you are trying to attract the assistance or a brownie or home faery, libations are necessary but you will also want to make sure no bells are around or anything with a sharp noise...this tends to scare the house spirits away. Ensure that there are no mirrors in your kitchen, too.
One more tip: never call a faery "faery"...it is said that they prefer to not be addressed but if they are addressed refer to them as "wise ones" or "old folk". If you think about it, they are similar to humans in this way...you don't want someone calling you by the wrong name, right?

HOW TO SEE THE FAERIES

 https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xta1/v/t1.0-9/11401256_795422393905881_5900385454600451214_n.jpg?oh=932cbb552f34a16703857005645aac4e&oe=55FAC14B&__gda__=1441999554_d221c6080f78d78ca5079de634538968

This post, and those that follow, are intended to inform you about how, where, and when you can see, feel, hear, and interact with fairies.
They exist in the Earth Plane, which means, that we don’t have to do any energy raising
to interact with them, because they exist right here, along side us,
in the same realm that plant spirits, animal spirits, and gnomes reside.
If you think of those in “Spirit,” for the purpose of this post,
I mean typical, non-fairy Guides, Angels, and Deceased Loved ones, you tend to think of them existing upward, somewhere above where we are, on Earth. And this is correct,
they do exist in a Spiritual Realm, above.
But, there are also realms side by side with the physical realm (where we humans live) on Earth.
We refer to these as "horizontal realms."

They exist horizontally on the Earth plane, beside the physical plane, in the Fairy Realm,
or the Plant Realm, Animal Realm, or Gnome Realm, depending on your perspective
- these are all called horizontal realms.

http://members.tripod.com/~Viclyn/christensen-OnceUponTime.jpg

It just so happens that Plants and Animals usually have physical bodies existing in the physical realm,
in addition to their non-physical “home” realm. That’s why we can see them, with little effort,
with our physical eyes - because they exist with physical bodies right where we live too!

Gnomes and Fairies, do not have physical bodies within our realm.

They exist in their home realms, and come and go from our realm,
with the bodies that they currently have - ones that typically cannot be seen with everyday,
 untrained, human eyes.

Because fairies and gnomes can come and go from our realm, the physical realm,
we can come and go from their realms too.
And that, is the secret to seeing them.

It’s perfectly acceptable for us to travel, with our physical bodies, to their realms.
In doing so, we will be able to see them.
BUT - you can see them even without traveling to their realm.

First, we’ll cover the basics - where they live and what times of day to find them.
Then, we’ll cover how to see them in the physical realm, where we currently live,
and then, how to see them by traveling to their realm.
http://faeriefae.50megs.com/court_of_faeries_james_christensen.jpg

SEEING FAIRIES: Basics
To see a fairy, regardless of realm, it’s best to travel to their home environment.
Just like if you wanted to see a woodpecker in person,
you’d travel to the place that woodpeckers live.
You also might look up what times of day woodpeckers are active, and what types of food they eat,
so you could plan your trip for optimal woodpecker viewing opportunities.
And you’ll do this to see a fairy too.

Fairies live in moist, dense forests.
They prefer deciduous forests overall, but fairies live in all forests everywhere
- even pine, alpine forests, or sparse stands of Eucalyptus in Southern California.
The larger the stand of trees, the vaster the amount of tree cover, the better. The only requirement is that there must be tree cover.

 Why?
This is simple really, full sun is too harsh on fairy wings.

It’s too harsh on pretty much everything, and fairy wings are not excluded.
It gets too hot in full sun, and it’s drying.
The sun is respected of course, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that fairies prefer filtered, warm sunlight.

In the understory of a forest, where sunlight comes filtering in through the spaces between the leaves, only hitting the forest floor in spots here and there, this is the location where fairies can be found.

http://retired.emeraldsilver.com/Beatrice_ProjectX/images/Fae_Courtesans.jpg

As far as time of day, fairies take naps when the sun is at it’s hottest.
Just as many humans do, as well.
Fairies are most active in the mornings from 6am to 11am, a
nd in the late afternoons, from 3pm to 5pm, and again, in the early night hours, from 7pm to 9pm.

Your best chance seeing a fairy, or many fairies, roughly is during these time frames,
in a stand of trees that is mostly shaded with filtered sunlight.
You probably already have a place in mind.

If there’s water - like a stream, even better.
Fairies love sitting on moss and ferns - why? Because they are comfortable to sit on!
Everyone likes lounging by the water side, and fairies are no exception here.
If you were a fairy, you’d probably enjoy sitting on a fern,
listening to the gentle trickle of the stream, too.
In fact, you might secretly wish you could!
Those are the basics to seeing a fairy, or many fairies,
and I bet that you already have just the place in mind!

SEEING FAIRIES: In the Physical Realm

http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h476/starry1night/fairy%20portal%201_zpsx8xtym5v.jpg

Visit a stand of trees that fits the description above, during the time of day optimal for fairies.
Now, it’s time to look for glints of light.
This can most easily be done if you find a stream, or a source of water.
But, you’ll also see glints of light on the forest floor, in the canopy, on reflections in dew on leaves,
or the shimmer of a waxy leaf.
Standing in the middle of the forest, take a moment to look around you.
Spin around 360 degrees. You aren’t “looking” for anything in particular when you spin,
instead, you are letting your eyes and your mind only pick up on the glints of light that catch your eye.

These glints of light, shimmers, sparkles, or flashes
- reflections on water,
where the sun hits in just the right way, a shiny beetle, a waxy leaf - these are fairies.

Once you’ve spotted one, now is the time to acknowledge.
You’ve entered an area that is no longer your home, but the home of a fairy.
It’s time to greet them, just as you would greet the owner or the resident of a house you visit;
it’s only polite.
Thank them for being your hostess for the day
 - for the forest, is tended to by the fairies that live there.
In the same way that any human home is tended to by its residents.

In this moment, be aware of your senses.
You may feel a buzzing or vibration in the air - you’ll feel it on your skin or hear it in your ears.
Know that this is the sound and feeling of fairies all around you.

That’s it - you’ve now seen a fairy, or several.
Once you’ve seen them one time, you’ll forever be able to spot a fairy.
Say hello and continue on your walk, as one friend of the forest to another,
you’re both stewards of the environment, in your own individual way.

SEEING FAIRIES: In their Home Realm
As we discussed earlier, because fairies are able to leave the fairy realm
and enter the physical realm, where we live, we also have this ability.

I know, it sounds weird -
how can I transport myself to the fairy realm?
I don’t have a time or dimension traveling machine!

It’s easy. Easier than you think. All you do, is say one simple thing,
“I am transitioning to the fairy realm now.”

 http://sparklefairy.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/fairies.jpg

And like a stage switching scenes, you switch from the physical realm, to the fairy realm.
Sure- it isn’t magic, all of your belongings are still around you,
you still look like you’re in the physical realm, and you ARE.
 What’s shifting is the energy.
The other realms are energetic realms - they don’t necessarily have a different backdrop,
just a different feel. You’re still on the same stage, as it were, but air around you has shifted.

Now what? How can you actually see a fairy?
Well - this is different depending on how you see clairvoyantly,
you may see a fairy in your minds eye (third eye) or with your physical eyes.

When you first start doing this, it’s best to begin in the same place that they exist in the physical world, in a lightly shaded forest.
The fairies are plentiful there, and you’ll have a better chance of seeing one with your eyes.

https://41.media.tumblr.com/cfd923a06dad6eb368fe5692a2f1a719/tumblr_npe5g5GWxV1td9oybo1_500.jpg

In the beginning, your eyes aren’t used to seeing fairies,
and as I’m sure you’ve heard, there are some theories about our brains and visual perceptions
 - we only see what we expect to see, and let’s be honest, our brains don’t expect to see fairies,
at least not yet!  (See herehere and here, for more info on this type of perception, for starters.)

So, I’ll tell you what, the first things you’ll see, will be figures.
You’ll think that you saw a small difference in the texture of the air floating by,
the air looked weird over by that tree for a minute.
It might look like a heat wave, or gelatinous, or shaky, a strange vibration.
You might see a whitish, gold, or otherwise glowing, outline of a figure zip by.
Know that by seeing these small deviations in the air, you are starting to get used to seeing fairies.
You are training your brain to see them.
The more you step into the fairy realm, with the intent purpose to see a fairy,
the more and more concrete your visions will get each time.
Keep doing it. Again and again.
You might only see them in your imagination at first (seeing clairvoyantly with your third eye!), thinking that maybe you imagined a fairy there,
but you didn’t actually see it with your eyes. It’s the same thing, you saw a fairy.
The key, is to keep practicing.
And when you’re ready to be done for the day,
you simply say that you are transitioning out of the fairy realm, and back to the physical realm.
Or don’t. You’re also welcome to stay indefinitely.

FAERY SPELLS , RECIPES and MUSINGS

Fairy Bells Blessing

This spell should be done at night, with the intention of asking the fairies for some magickal good luck. Your supplies are:

• A small silver bell
• A white candle
• Rose oil

Anoint the candle with rose oil, and announce that you are going to ask the fairies for their blessings. Ring the bell three times and say:

When the bell rings, my spirit sings
I call to the helpful fairies of light
To bless me with their magick tonight

Ring the bell for another 3 times, and say the words again. Repeat one more time and then go to bed. Leave the candle burning some where safe. In the morning, ring the bell one single time and thank the fairies.

PROSPERITY AND WEALTH
FAE MAGICK

*a  silver coin
*a white stone from nature
 *7 pinches of vervain
7 pinches poppy seeds

1) Draw a Faery Ring and scatter the rosemary CLOCKWISE around the Ring.
Then draw a Faery Magick Circle and call in the Faery Guardians

2) Light the smudge stick , and pass the other items through  the smoke to energetically clear them of any unwanted energies. Extinguish the smudge completely when you are done.

3) Next , use the pen to write down the  exact  amount of silver and gold (the amount of money) you want to draw into your life this year. Write down how you are going to receive the money.
Some examples are: through your regular job, overtime, opening your own business,
selling personal items or real estate, writing a song, cook book or a software program, craft-making, playing the stock market or  from a family trust.

4) Out loud, read the amount of money and how you are goin to get it .., 3x

5) Put the sheet of paper on a flat surface, and put the coin, stone, vervain, and poppy seeds in the center of the paper. Fold  the paper once, then again, and then a third time, foldin the contents up  as you do so.

6) Carefully place the folded paper and contents into  the golden box  . Close the box and hold it in your hands. Empower it by saying:

"Faery gold and prosperity
Newfound fortune and money
Continuously flow to me
As I will, so shall it be ! "

7) Continue holding the box in your hands as you imagine having the exact amount of money
that you want this year. Imagine how that money is coming into your life. Imagine that action steps you can take, and all the ways the money and treasure will flow into your life, from your honest efforts, golden opportunities and truly bright ideas.

8) When you are done, thank the Faeries, bid farewell to the Guardians and pull up your Faery Magick Circle.

9) Put the Charm Box in a place of honor  where you will see it everyday. Once a day, empower the fortunate power of your Faery Gold Charm Box by holding it in your hands and saying,

"Faery gold and prosperity
Newfound fortune and money
Continuously flow to me
As I will, so shall it be ! "

A Recipe to See the Fae

On a Dawn morn or dusk eve, find a special bottle, a pretty one the Fae would like that is.
1 cup gathered spring or rain water
1 teaspoon of Pink Rose petals
1/2 teaspoon Lavender flowers
Add 3 Quartz crystals
Add 3 Amethyst Chips
1 pinch of Faery sugar (see re
And pour into it
cipe below)
Nine inch piece of pink ribbon

Now hide this away in a dark cool place for three days. On the third day, again at dawn or dusk, in a place you think you might spot the Fae, like an Oak tree, backyard or mushroom patch in the forest. Even a potted plant, herb or Flower will do. Tie a nine inch piece of Pink ribbon arond bottle neck. Next, close your eyes and sprinkle 9 drops over each eyelid of your 'Faery Potion Water', careful not to get it IN your eyes! Next recite this Faery incantation and watch for the Fae.

If a maid that is deep in love will go with her suitor to a lonely place in the meadows

or the woods, or to the moors, and place within her own and her lover's shoe a single oakleaf;

and if they both will wait there and contemplate their love, and speak it to one another as

evening falls and the stars come out, they will, if their patience is good,

behold the fairy host as they come to gambol and sport in the wilds.

The four leaf clover spell

If a maid will slip a four~leaf clover into her left shoe,
and tie a garland of myrtle and clover around her brow,
she will see the fairies as the moon comes up.

  ~ Faery Dream Pillow ~

Cut out two squares of soft fabric approximately 6 inches square
Velvet,velveteen or satin are preferred,
Sew around three sides of the squares with
white or silver thread. Mix in a bowl:
Rose Petals (two parts)
Primroses (one part)
Bay leaves, fresh (one part)
Lavender (one part )
Milkweed pod silky tassels (two parts)
Turn the pillow inside out so that the seams don't show, stuff the pillow
with your herb mixture. Sew up the end so that the herbs stay in the pillow.
You can then decorate the pillow if you want with lace, silk, or embroider
with designs, etc. Take this pillow to bed with you at night and put it
under your pillow. This not only smells great but will help you to have
dreams of the fey. NOTE: After six months these pillows may lose their
"fresh" scent. You can reuse them by emptying out the old contents and
refilling them with new herbs.

Do you see the Faery?
'Ribbon of pink, I just might think.
I would like to see the Fae today.
Special sight of Faery's flight,
Send to me the way today.
A sprinkle here a sprinkle there,
A secret spell I say today.
Wispy wings and little things,
Are what I’d like to see today.'
PLEASE note this may need to be repeated to see the Fae, as they are VERY cautious little creatures! ~ Written by Barbara Morris 2ooo - 2oo7

The Flowers

"All the names I know from nurse:
Gardener's garters, Shepherd's purse,
Bachelor's buttons, Lady's smock,
And the Lady Hollyhock. Fairy places, fairy things,
Fairy woods where the wild bee wings,
Tiny trees for tiny dames -
These must all be fairy names!
Tiny woods below whose boughs
Shady fairies weave a house;
Tiny treetops, rose or thyme,
Where the braver fairies climb!
Fair are grownup people's trees,
But the fairest woods are these;
Where, if I were not so tall,
I should live for good and all."
~ Robert Louis Stevenson

they have too much to do with mankind."
